Radiofrequency Ablation

Also known as rhizotomy, is used to treat severe chronic pain in the lower back, where radio frequency waves are used to produce heat on specifically identified nerves surrounding the facet joints on either side of the lumbar spine.

  • The heat generated during an RFA stops the transmission of pain signals to the brain thus ablating the nerve.
  • Recovery time: One to two days of recovery, and nearly immediate pain relief is achieved after procedure.
