A sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion is a procedure used to treat SI joint related pain. It is occurs by placing an implant in the SI joint to restrict motion. This results in improvemevents in low back/buttocks pain and pain with phyiscal activity.

Patient Qualifications

  • Symptoms of SI joint related pain.
  • >6 months despite conservative care.
  • Evidence of SI joint degeneration on imaging.
  • Must have 2 previous SI joint injections with >80% pain relief.

Use of the SI Joint fusion is contraindicated in:

  • Patients not cleared for surgery because of severe health issues.
  • Patients with ongoing systemic or local infection.
  • Patients who cannot temporarily stop current blood thinners.
  • Patients with uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Patients with severe neurologic compromise who may need emergent surgery.
